ABOUT ANSON
Founded in 1881, Anson is the County Seat of Jones County and was named for Dr. Anson Jones, the architect of Texas Statehood and the last president of the Republic of Texas. Anson residents enjoy the pleasure and amenities of small-town life but are only 23 miles away from Abilene, a city of more than 120,000, with all of its cultural facilities, including three Christian colleges. Anson is also home of the Cowboy’s Christmas Ball, which began in 1880. Anson is a very diversified recreation area. The city park is home to one of the largest swimming pools in the region, which is surrounded by a 9-hole golf course, little league park, picnic facilities, playground, a clubhouse, and show barns for fairs and stock shows.
